THE 411

Susan Lucci created the role of the sexy, sassy and savvy Erica Kane on ALL MY CHILDREN in 1970. Since her debut, Lucci has had an award-winning career that has earned her international renown and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with success in both daytime and prime time. In 1999, Lucci realized her life-long dream to star on Broadway when she assumed the role of Annie Oakley in a revival of Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun. Lucci was nominated 21 times for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress. After 18 losses, she finally took home the gold in 1999, a feat that earned her a four-minute standing ovation. Other accolades honor her work with children's charities. Lucci supports the Little Flowers Children's Services of New York, a foster-care and adoption service. She also served as the celebrity spokesperson for the March of Dimes' National Ambassador Campaign in 2000. In 1991 Lucci launched her own lines of hair-care and beauty products, accessories, lingerie and perfumes. In 2001, Lucci introduced a complete line of jewelry, shoes, and accessories. She partnered with Guthy-Renker to produce a skin care collection called Youthful Essence by Susan Lucci. Her lingerie line is available on the Home Shopping Network (HSN) and Lucci’s official Web site.

COMING INTO HER OWN

"I think that gold [Emmy] statuette is a symbol of a body of work. It should stand for a year's worth of work, and after all this time I guess it's especially taken on importance for me. I would love to have that statuette as a symbol of my work." — Soap Opera Weekly, 5/18/99

"You know what my greatest personal stumbling block is? My shyness. Erica is so out there and in your face when she wants to be. And actually it's been good for me to play Erica, and, also, the kind of life that has gone along with this has forced me to come out of my shell more. I still have days, but I'm not as shy as I was." — Weekly, 6/27/00

LIFE LESSONS

"What comes to mind is my father telling me that if an alligator was ever chasing you, you should run in a zigzag fashion and they can't catch you. It was a life lesson; it applies to a lot of things. Did I occasionally zig when I should have zagged? Oh, definitely!" — Weekly, 7/02/02

YOU SHOULD HEAR WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT YOU!

"If I'd have started in my early 20s I'd be dead at the Viper Room, foaming at the mouth, without a doubt. That's why I admire Susan so much. She's my hero. All these years of being a celebrity have not changed her. She's been married to the same man, has great kids and a great life away from all this." — Walt Willey (Jackson, AMC), Weekly, 11/25/97

"Coming in, I knew of Susan Lucci and I thought, Oh, my God, how am I going to do this? She’s so wonderful, and I've never done this before. She immediately made me feel comfortable and put me at ease. Now, a year later, I have a great rapport with her. She's a giving actress, and I feel like we're friends. The other day I was tired when I showed up to work and she gave me a hug and some tea. She chats with me about things. I feel lucky that I get to work with her." — Alicia Minshew (Kendall, AMC), Weekly, 3/25/03

"How could any man not want to be with Susan Lucci?" — Thorsten Kaye (Zach, AMC), on the possibility of a Zach/Erica romance, Weekly, 6/1/04
